Today I am going to do a review on Quiz Cat, a WordPress plugin developed by Fatcat Apps that will let you make a viral type quiz that you can put on your WordPress websites and blogs.
To tell you the truth, I have actually been thinking of making a quiz website before, and this is because whenever I browse my Facebook newsfeed, I observed that there is always someone sharing quizzes and I realized that if I build one myself, it would have the potential to get viral and shared on social media as well, but due to some other projects I had that time, I temporarily put it on hold.
But just a few weeks ago, the idea of making my own quiz website resurfaced again and this time, I decided to give it a go so I tried to search for some quiz plugins, and although there are several out there, what really got my attention is the Quiz Cat plugin, so I tried to contact Fatcat Apps if they can provide me a review copy so I will be able to test it, which they actually did.
What is Quiz Cat
You might be wondering what Quiz Cat is. This is actually a WordPress quiz builder plugin that lets you create quizzes that you can embed on your WordPress website which you can use to engage more with your audience and at the same time, build a list from it.
With Quiz Cat you can build 2 types of quizzes – the number quiz and the personality quiz. These are actually the two type of quizzes that you usually see on social media being shared by your friends which tends to get really viral especially if the quiz is an interesting one
Why Use A Quiz
Online quizzes have been around for a while now, but it has only became more widespread today because of the advent of social media. The nice thing about quizzes is that if it is really interesting, it can have the potential to get viral, especially when people begins to share their quiz results on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, and as you know this is actually a nice thing because it will extend your reach and provide massive traffic and improved engagement to your website as well.
Using the Quiz Cat Plugin
The Quiz Cat WordPress plugin is actually very easy to use and creating your very own quiz only requires a few clicks of a button away.
Installing the Plugin
The first thing you need to do is to install the plugin. Installing the plugin is just like installing a normal plugin so there is really nothing to expound here. After installing the plugin, the Quiz Cat option will become available in the left hand menu of the admin dashboard.
Creating the Quiz
To create a quiz, just go to Quiz Cat > Add New
Quiz Cat lets you make 2 types of quiz – the Test Quiz and the Personality Quiz. I’ll explain each of these below
Test Quiz
This is the type of quiz that requires the quiz taker choose the right answer. At the end of the quiz, it will show you the number of correct answers you got in the quiz. This type of quiz is normally used for trivia or IQ quizzes.
To create a Test Quiz, just click the button “Build a Test” to begin
Give your quiz a meaningful title and a relevant description. The description part is not really required but it would be nice if add one to give your audience a better understanding on what your quiz is all about
You can also add images and links if you want
The next thing you need to do is to add questions and answers.
By default, you have to fill out the following:
- The Question
- Correct Answer
- Wrong Answer
You can use text or images for each field
You can add more wrong answers if you want to by clicking “Add Answer” but for this tutorial, I limited the wrong answers to 1.
You can add more questions if you want by clicking the “+Add” button. There is no limit in the number of questions your quiz can have so add as many questions as you like
If you want, you can also go to the Settings tab to change the color and other elements of your quiz. At the Settings tab, you can also enable or disable the social sharing buttons as well as enable the optin form on your quiz. Enabling the optin form will allow you to email the quiz result to the quiz takers, which is a great way to build your list from your quizzes
Once your finished, click the “Save” button and you’re done
Personality Quiz
This is the type of quiz wherein the quiz takers are required to choose from the list of answers the one that describes him or her. Here there is really no right or wrong answer, but the goal is to choose the answer that you think best fits the way you think
To create a Personality Quiz, just click the button “Build a Personality Quiz” to begin
Just like the Test quiz, give your personality quiz a meaningful title and a relevant description.
The next thing to do is to add “Personality Results”. You can also upload images here to add more style to your results
You can add as many Personality Results depending on your quiz. You will be using it later once you are creating the questions
Now, you need to create questions for your personality quiz, and for each answers, you have to match the “Personality Result” that best describes the answer. In the example below, you can see that I matched the answer with the Personality Result “Earth”
Do this for all the answers on your personality quiz. Just like the Test Quiz, you can add as many questions and answers as you like
You can also go to the Settings tab if you want to change colors, enable or disable the social sharing buttons, as well as adding an optin form on your quiz.
Once your finished, click the “Save” button and you’re done
Embedding The Quiz To Posts or Pages
Once you have finished your quiz, proceed to your quiz dashboard by going to Quiz Cat > All Quizzes
Once you’re at the dashboard, you can see all the quizzes that you have created with its corresponding short codes
After that, just paste it to any posts or pages on your website.
And that’s basically it! Your quiz is now online and you can start promoting it on your social media accounts, Facebook groups, and other platforms that you know
You can see below the sample quiz I made using the Quiz Cat Plugin
What I Like About the Quiz Cat Plugin
Below are the things that I found to be the strengths of the plugin
Easy to Use
One of the things I like about Quiz Cat is its ease of use. The interface is simple and very intuitive, and all you need to do is follow the simple steps that I mentioned in my walkthrough to create your quiz
Option For List Building
So you’ve heard the saying “The money is in the list” right? With Quiz Cat, you can easily build your list with your quizzes because the plugin gives you the option to add optin forms on your quizzes that integrate several autoresponder services. It really comes handy especially when your quiz goes viral that it can build you a massive list in just a short amount of time
Detailed Analytics
Another nice thing about Quiz Cat is it provides a nice analytics where you will be able to determine how your quiz performs . What is good about this is you will be able to know where the quiz takers engages the most, or which quiz has the most shares and from here, you’ll see clearly which types of quizzes gets the most interaction from your audience.
Viral Potential
Quizzes these days tends to be shared on social media platforms, and since Quiz Cat has a feature to let you share your results on social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, your quiz has the potential to get viral especially if you really made a very interesting quiz and you’re able to hit the right audience.
What I Don’t Like About the Plugin
Does Not Have HTML Support For Other Autoresponders
Although the plugin can integrate autoresponder services, it does not have a feature that lets you integrate other autoresponder services aside that is not included on their list. This was actually a drawback in my case since I’m using the Mailit Plugin which is not supported by Quiz Cat at the moment
Does Not Have Unique Social Badge When Sharing Quiz Result
The social badge I’m talking about is the personalized image with your score that will appear when you share your quiz result on social media platforms. At the moment, Quiz Cat does not generate that but I hope this can be included in their future updates
Pricing
The Quiz Cat Plugin has three pricing options – the Personal License which costs $29.00, the Business License which costs $49.00, and the Elite License which costs $99.00.
All the licenses are one-time payment which also includes 1 year of support and updates. If after a year and you want to renew the support and updates, you can do so with a 30% discount.
Depending on the features you need for your quiz, select the license which fit your requirement. You can see below the comparison table between the three licenses
Wrapping Up
And I believe that wraps up my review. There is no doubt that quizzes are one of the most effective ways to engage with your audience as quizzes really let them interact with your website in a fun and enjoyable way, and not only that, with the its high tendency to go viral when shared on social media platforms, it can even allow you to extend your reach to new heights as well, which can make your site a lot popular with less efforts.
With Quiz Cat, you can do all these without even the need to learn coding or whatever, so I really recommend this plugin to those who want to add something cool to your website that can make your audience stay longer and engage better with your website than ever before.
